Mitsubishi to upgrade generator at R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant

Baltimore, April 6, 2011 – As part of the R.E. Ginna generator replacement project valued at about $50 million, Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, to replace the electric generator at the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, NY, in 2014.

Mitsubishi will install a new electrical generator and excitation system including related auxiliaries during a planned refueling and maintenance outage.

Ginna employs more than 500 people and is licensed to operate its nuclear power reactor until 2029. The power plant uses a pressurized water reactor and generates nearly 500 MW.

It is owned and operated by Baltimore-based CENG, which operates five nuclear reactors at three sites in New York and Maryland.

The R.E. Ginna generator upgrade project will be led by the Power Generation Services division of MPSA in Orlando, Fla.
