FirstEnergy announced that Marlene Barwood has been named assistant controller of FirstEnergy Utilities.
 
In this role, she is responsible for the management of accounting functions and internal controls for FirstEnergy’s 10 regulated utility operating companies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and West Virginia. Barwood is replacing Jon Taylor, who is now assistant controller of FirstEnergy Solutions.
 
A 30-year employee with the company, Barwood joined GPU Inc., which merged in 2001 with FirstEnergy, as an accountant in 1982. She has held finance, accounting and management positions and was a member of the finance team during the FirstEnergy-GPU merger. In 2004, she was promoted to manager of budge and controls for the company’s energy delivery group. In 2007, she was named director of corporate business services for the energy delivery group. Following the merger of FirstEnergy and Allegheny Energy in 2011, Barwood was named director of planning and analysis of FirstEnergy Utilities.
 
“With her accounting and financial expertise and her extensive knowledge of our utility operations, Marlene is a great addition to our leadership team,” said Harvey L. Wagner, vice president, controller and chief accounting officer of FirstEnergy.
 
Barwood earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
