M2 Renewables, a wastewater treatment and renewable energy technology, announces an addition to its board of directors: the Honorable Stephen L. Johnson, 11th administer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“We are extremely privileged to have the Honorable Stephen L. Johnson join our board,” said Gerhard Forstner, CEO of M2 Renewables. “Administrator Johnson will assist M2R in transforming its environmental vision and mission into tangible benefits for all of M2R’s stakeholders and the environment. His leadership, vision and experience represent an opportunity for America to create sustainable environmental practices with support from state, federal and international policies that incentivize innovation.”

With three decades of service in environmental protection, Johnson brings to M2R a wealth of experience and a strong scientific background. As head of the EPA, Johnson managed a staff of more than 17,000 and oversaw a $7 billion annual budget.

“I am honored to accept this appointment and be part of a dynamic team that will revolutionize the process of wastewater treatment and provide a source of renewable energy,” Johnson said. “M2 Renewables’ innovative technologies improve wastewater treatment effectiveness at reduced cost and capture a wasted source of energy within a reduced environmental footprint. I am pleased to be joining a company that is committed to providing cost-effective, environmentally sustainable solutions for the urgent global needs for new and deteriorating wastewater treatment systems.”

Johnson is a recipient of the White House’s Presidential Rank Award, the highest award bestowed to civilian federal employees. Prior to his service in the agency, Johnson was director of operations at Hazelton Laboratories Corp. and Litton Bionetics Inc.
