The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) has named Wesley Yeomans as its new vice president of operations.
Prior to joining the NYISO, Yeomans worked for Niagara Mohawk and National Grid for 25 years, during which time he served as director of business development for National Grid-New York and also was involved with Niagara Mohawk’s power control center operations for 18 years.
“Wes Yeomans’ wealth of experience, extensive expertise in electric grid operations and knowledge of our unique, shared-governance structure will serve the NYISO well,” said Stephen G. Whitley, NYISO president and CEO. “With more than 25 years of industry experience, Wes has earned the respect of his co-workers here at the NYISO, and I know he is well-qualified to lead our operations team.”
As vice president of operations, Yeomans is responsible for NYISO’s operations department, which includes grid operations, energy market operations, transmission congestion contract operations and auxiliary market operations. He also will oversee operations performance and analysis, reliability, compliance and industry affairs and operations engineering.
In July 2009, Yeomans joined the NYISO as director of operations. In that position he was involved with the daily operations of the NYISO’s power control center reliability and market functions. He represented the NYISO in its shared-governance process at the operating committee and also at the New York State Reliability Council.
Yeomans earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University and a master’s degree in business administration from Syracuse University.
