A Welcomes 1998 with Excitement
January is an exciting month for those of us at Utility Automation. As you can see just from glancing at this issue, it is our DistribuTECH `98 show issue. One of my duties as Utility Automation`s managing editor is to serve on the conference planning committee, as well as provide support to PennWell`s conference and exhibition staff. This has been a great opportunity for me. I have had the privilege of meeting and working with some true experts in the utility industry. The conference committee is comprised of individuals from utilities, consulting firms, engineering firms and companies that provide the latest technology to the utility industry. It is because of their interest in and dedication to the utility industry that they are willing to volunteer their time and talents and help make DistribuTECH the country`s biggest and best utility automation conference.
Those of you who are able to attend the show will not only have the opportunity to hear some excellent speakers, but you will have access to an exhibit hall filled with exhibiting companies that are dedicated to helping utilities survive and prosper in the changing marketplace. I am convinced that much of the evolution to a competitive market would not be possible, or would at least be progressing at a much slower pace, if it were not for the technology that is being made available to today`s utilities. Attendees at this year`s conference will get to see this technology firsthand and learn how it is already being utilized by many utilities.
For those of you who are not able to attend the show, you too have the opportunity to learn about some of the exhibitors and their products by reading the DistribuTECH Symposium-In-Print article beginning on page 44.
This January is also an exciting month for Utility Automation for another reason–we have added a new editor to our staff. I am pleased to introduce you to Steve Wood, Utility Automation`s Associate Editor. Steve has already been a big asset to the magazine and I`m sure you will find his input to the publication valuable.
Steve and I will both be attending DistribuTECH and hope to see you there. Please drop by Booth 644 and visit us if you have the chance.
