Lake Mary, FL, Mar. 30, 2005 — ABB, a power and automation technology group, announced the latest addition to its feeder automation portfolio, the OVR-1 single-phase recloser.
The OVR-1 utilizes the same modular technology as ABB’s OVR-3 three-phase recloser. In addition, the OVR-1’s pole design lends itself to improved reliability through the use of ABB vacuum interrupters, advanced design technology, and cutting edge insulating material, according to ABB. The pole configuration was designed with 3D electrostatic and magnetostatic modeling software, which allowed ABB to design and test the poles and actuators in a virtual environment prior to any actual manufacturing.
The insulating material utilized for the OVR recloser is Hydrophobic Cycloaliphatic Epoxy (HCEP). HCEP prevents water from developing completely wetted, resistive conductive surfaces, thus reducing leakage currents and reducing flashover risks.
ABB provides the OVR-1 with a fully functional control for single-phase recloser applications. All the appropriate time-current curves for single-phase applications are included as well as functional controls such as one-shot mode, all of which are programmable through a user-friendly software interface.
The OVR is available in 15 kV and 27 kV ratings. The maximum continuous current is up to 800 A; the maximum interrupting current is 10 kA; and the BIL is up to 125 kV.
