PLANO, Texas, Sept. 19 — EDS has announced an agreement with Allegheny Energy Inc. for information technology (IT) services. Over the next seven years, EDS will assume responsibility for many of Allegheny’s IT tasks and will coordinate the installation of a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
With this agreement, EDS will manage Allegheny’s applications, desktops, midrange servers and communications networks. EDS will also lead a vendor consortium comprising EDS, Deloitte Consulting and A.T. Kearney. Deloitte Consulting will play a major role in an ERP application software implementation, and global management consulting firm A.T. Kearney, currently an EDS subsidiary, will add its utility industry insights, operations experience and supply chain expertise to the team.
“IT isn’t always just about technology. In the utility business it’s about simplifying and improving business processes to improve plant operations — then building the technology foundation to support it,” said Jeremy Schutte, global energy industry leader for EDS. “The ultimate result is a transformed enterprise with improved customer service and a positive impact on the bottom line — a goal for companies in every industry.”
As part of the agreement, most of approximately 185 Allegheny employees will transition to EDS.
