AMR Featured in EnergyOne Relaunch
Automatic meter reading (AMR) is one of the key services featured in the relaunch of EnergyOne, the first nationally branded electric utility service company. EnergyOne was started in 1995 as a national brand of Utilicorp, a Kansas City-based electric utility. It was relaunched this summer as a joint venture of Utilicorp and Philadelphia-based PECO Energy. The EnergyOne brand will be licensed to any electric or gas utility in the United States on a franchise basis, similar to the VISA card concept.
EnegyOne franchisees can use the brand to market electricity, gas and a wide range of related services to their retail customers. EnergyOne provides national marketing and infrastructure support such as a national call center. The first three related service suppliers allied with the new EnergyOne are:
AT&T, which will offer local and long-distance telephone services and Internet services,
ADT, which will offer home security services, and
Itron, which will offer AMR.
Additional services being considered are appliance warranties, surge protection, appliance control, personal alert services, smart thermostats and satellite TV. Franchisees can choose all or any combination of EnergyOne`s services.
EnergyOne is not intended to be a low-cost supplier. Allied services will be offered to customers on a competitive basis. Advantage for the customer is intended to be the convenience of one-stop shopping. PECO and Utilicorp will be the first utilities to offer the EnergyOne service to retail customers.
