AMS to Plug Utilities Into the Internet
American Management Systems (AMS) has launched an Internet and electronic commerce consulting practice to help electric and gas utilities improve customer service and lower operating costs. Chris Alvord leads the new practice, having recently joined the AMS Utilities Consulting and Systems Group as a vice president. “Utilities, like most large businesses, are struggling to realize the promise of e-commerce services and systems,” said Alvord. “There is enormous power in these sets of capabilities, both to reduce costs and compete for customers. Utilities that start using e-commerce as a key element in their customer strategy will be in a much stronger competitive position.” According to AMS, utilities can integrate Web technologies with existing customer care operations and systems to deliver powerful, low-cost services to mass market, commercial and industrial customers.
