California gas-fired power plants get emission waivers

HOUSTON, June 11, 2001 — California Gov. Gray Davis issued an executive order late Monday that allows gas-fired power plants to operate additional hours beyond the limits set for environmental reasons.

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 12, 2001 — Consumer Federation of America (CFA) and Consumers Union (CU) today submitted a study to Congress that analyzes the need to impose a tax on energy producers who may be manipulating the market to reap excessive profits.
