California ISO bidding on 2,000 MW of new generating capacity

Oct. 5, 2000—After the harrowing summer of 2000 and facing a potential 5000 MW shortage next summer , the California Independent System Operator (ISO) is taking the bold step of buying 2,000 MW of new electric generation capacity to avert blackouts.

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Oct. 3, 2000—During the third quarter of 2000, the common stock price of PPL Corp. increased 90 percent, a greater growth rate than any other electric utility stock and a greater growth rate than all but two of the stocks that are part of the entire Standard & Poors 500 Index.
