California’s independent generators actually charged lowest prices to DWR in first quarter

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 8, 2001 – California’s independent generators charged the state’s Department of Water Resources prices well below the weighted average of all sellers during the first quarter of 2001.

“Despite political rhetoric to the contrary, our member companies continue to help get California through this crisis – including selling electricity at prices lower on average than other market participants,” said Jan Smutny-Jones, Executive Director of the Independent Energy Producers Association.

According to the analysis, DWR was charged a weighted average of $269 per MWh. While IEP member companies charged prices below this, Powerex, LADWP, BPA and other entities charged prices significantly higher than average.
