Calpine names E. James Macias COO

SAN JOSE, Calif. (PRNewswire-FirstCall) Calpine Corporation, the nation’s independent power company, today announced the promotion of E. James (Jim) Macias to executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO). As COO, Macias will be responsible for directing and integrating the activities of the company’s Power Generation, Calpine Energy Services, Gas Resources, and WRMS engineering services and c*Power.

Macias has served as senior vice president — power and industrial marketing, where he was responsible for marketing power and energy services throughout the country. In addition, he has led negotiations with California for long-term power contracts that provide reliable energy at affordable prices.

Prior to joining Calpine, Macias was senior vice president with Pacific Gas and Electric Company where he managed the utility’s electricity and gas transmission systems, gas supply program and power generation business. His career with PG&E spanned 22 years with ever increasing responsibilities.

Macias holds a bachelor of arts degree in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnic State University and is a graduate of the Program for Management Development, Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
