Calpine to Develop Haywood Energy Center

“We are very pleased to announce our first Calpine development project in the State of Tennessee,” said Bob Alff, Calpine senior vice president. “The Haywood Energy Center is ideally located relative to high-capacity natural gas and electric transmission interconnections, and has excellent access to multiple load centers throughout the dynamic southeastern power market.”

FirstEnergy Corp.’s transition plan has been approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). The plan covers the company’s Ohio electric utility operating companies-Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Company and Toledo Edison-in accordance with the state’s electricity restructuring law, which provides for customer choice beginning January 1, 2001.
