Cinergy Corp. rated best corporate governance practitioner

NEW YORK, March 4, 2003 — Cinergy Corp. was recently rated the best practitioner of corporate governance by Institutional Shareholders Services (ISS), a provider of proxy voting and corporate governance services.

ISS applied more than 60 criteria to arrive at Cinergy’s Corporate Governance Quotient (CGQ) of 99.6 percent, putting Cinergy ahead of the 499 other companies in Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, including all utilities.

An analysis by Salomon Smith Barney revealed that Cinergy’s CGQ also led all 30 companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

In 2002, Cinergy was one of six companies in the S&P 500 to receive the top score for financial transparency and information disclosed in its SEC reporting documents — the annual report, Form 10-K, Form 10-Qs, and the proxy statement.
