Cinergy, EPA, other parties reach agreement on power plant lawsuit

Cinergy Corp. (NYSE:CIN) and its two principal operating companies, The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company and PSI Energy, Inc., (Cinergy) announced the agreement today with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice, several Northeast states and two environmental groups that could serve as the basis for a negotiated resolution of Clean Air Act claims and other related matters brought against coal-fired power plants owned and operated by Cinergy.

Dec. 21, 2000–With a growing economy, U.S. energy demand is projected to increase 32 percent from 1999 to 2020, reaching 127 quadrillion Btu, assuming no changes in federal laws and regulations, according to alternative forecasts released today by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
