DALLAS, Oct. 12, 2001 – The City of Fort Worth has chosen TXU Energy Services as its electric service provider in an agreement valued at more than $15 million over 17 months.
“We can lower our electricity costs by an estimated 20 percent and continue to work with TXU, a local company we know well, that can assist us in managing our total electric consumption,” said Danny Reed, Fort Worth utilities administrator. TXU Energy Services offers an array of products and services that can help large cities or businesses manage electric consumption – such as procuring the lowest cost reliable power available, increasing energy efficiency and conservation, and consolidating numerous utility bills for multiple facilities.
“TXU and Fort Worth have a long history and we look forward to continuing our partnership with one of the most dynamic cities in Texas,” said Jeffrey Weiser, senior vice president, sales for TXU’s large business division.
TXU Energy Services also operates and maintains twin 5.2-megawatt generators at The City of Fort Worth’s Village Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, which uses a combination of technologies to conserve electricity, generate power, reduce costs and use fuel and heat efficiently.
The facility burns methane gas, produced during an organic treatment process, in the two new combustion turbines to provide about half the electricity needed to operate the plant around the clock.
