CMS Energy names David W. Joos president, COO and a member of the board

DEARBORN, Mich., October 1, 2001 – CMS Energy Corporation today announced its Board of Directors has elected David W. Joos as president, chief operating officer and a member of the Board.

In announcing the appointment, effective today, William T. McCormick, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of CMS, said “Dave Joos is a strong and experienced leader who will take our energy businesses to higher levels of performance and sustainable growth.”

Joos was previously executive vice president and chief operating officer, electric, in charge of CMS’ electric utility, independent power, international distribution and marketing, services and trading business units. He joined CMS in 1976 and has spent his career with the Company with the exception of the period 1979-83 when he worked as a design engineer for a major architect-engineering firm. During his CMS career he has held senior level positions in operations, engineering, marketing and regulatory affairs.

Joos earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering science and a master of science degree in nuclear engineering in 1975 and 1976 from Iowa State University. He completed the Program for Advanced Management at Harvard University in 1989. Joos serves on the boards of directors of Steelcase, Inc., the Michigan Manufacturing Association, Nuclear Management Co., and the Michigan Economic Development Corp.

CMS Energy Corporation has annual sales of $14 billion and assets of $16 billion throughout the U.S. and in selected foreign markets with businesses in electric and natural gas utility operations; independent power production; natural gas pipelines, gathering, processing and storage; LNG importation; oil and gas exploration and production; and energy marketing, services and trading.
