ComEd Selects Wireless Communications System Manager

Motorola`s Land Mobile Products Sector (LMPS) has established a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement with Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) to provide management, maintenance and system support services for the utility`s company-wide wireless communications network. The successful operation of the network is critical to the day-to-day performance of more than 7,500 ComEd employees who require immediate access to information while servicing 3.4 million customers in northern Illinois. The agreement includes the management of ComEd`s Motorola SmartZone wide-area two-way radio communications system, comprised of 20 transmitter sites that support more than 3,500 operations, maintenance, transmission, distribution and customer service employees. As part of the agreement, Motorola also will provide comprehensive wide-area radio and microwave systems needs analysis and planning for disaster recovery, storm restoration, long-term technology direction and migration, user training and evaluation and measurement of system performance.
