Companies embrace electronic trading faster than expected

Oct. 20, 2000–AmerenEnergy, the energy marketing and trading affiliate of Ameren Corp., is doing about 40% of its next-day trades and about 30% of its forward market trades electronically, says C. Joe Hopf, vice president of energy trading.

Oct. 20, 2000–Total revenue from U.S. electricity sales decreased 1.3% to $215 billion in 1999 from $218 billion in 1998, according to a new government study, while full-service sales of electricity to “bundled” ultimate consumers decreased slightly to 3,236 billion kWh.
