MARLBORO, Mass., Aug. 8, 2002 — Concord Communications recently announced that Ameren Corp., a $4.5 billion utility company offering electric and gas service to 1.8 million customers, selected its eHealthâ„- Suite of infrastructure management software as part of a strategic initiative to better manage its networks that support mission-critical customer applications.
With a broad customer base of private residences and businesses across Southern Illinois and Missouri, Ameren’s Missouri-based utility company — AmerenUE — conducted a thorough evaluation of top network management software with stringent selection criteria based on the solution’s ability to: control costs, deliver high quality service, ensure an easy migration from an existing customer service application, and support 5,000 users across a network spanning multiple cities.
These factors, reinforced by product testing, led to the selection of Concord’s eHealth Suite and the ultimate replacement of AmerenUE’s existing network performance monitoring solution.
“Making the decision to replace our customer service application for billing, account information and repairs presented a challenge and an opportunity. While we realized that we weren’t able to use our existing solution for capacity planning or to capture a more strategic view of data for long-term trending information, we were still hesitant to introduce another tool without knowing the impact it would have on our network,” said Tom Vavra, supervising network engineer at Ameren.
“Our testing proved, and the implementation validated, that we could implement the eHealth solution without any disruptions, and instantly develop customized reports that are useful to both engineers and management.”
In addition to keeping its customer interaction system running smoothly, AmerenUE uses Concord’s eHealth Suite to monitor more than 2,000 elements on its T1 and T3 networks that support back-office business applications for 5,000 users at 90 sites.
Through trending analysis, AmerenUE already identified several sites on its T1 network, for example, where it needed to upgrade its routers. The company is also using Concord to understand its current environment and whether there is enough capacity to support VoIP capabilities in the future.
