Data Systems & Solutions provides control room systems to APS and Exelon

RESTON, Va., Aug. 20, 2002 — Data Systems & Solutions recently announced that it has provided both Arizona Public Service (APS) and Exelon Nuclear with multi-unit installations of the company’s Control Room Automation (CORA) software tools.

Providing state-of-the-art automation, CORA delivers a positive return on investment to the nuclear, power generation and transmission and distribution industries. This is achieved by reducing the chances for error in plant processes and functions, and improving plant safety, accuracy, economics, and overall performance.

CORA is receiving widespread acceptance as the industry leader in control room automation, ancillary operation, and engineering productivity improvement. Elements of the suite are currently in use at more than 50 nuclear sites in the United States. A reflection of this is the commitment of Exelon Nuclear for a CORA fleet-wide implementation and the installation of CORA at APS’s three-unit plant.

“Exelon Nuclear has selected Data Systems & Solutions’ CORA applications for fleet-wide implementation. Right now, we’re using AutoLog and AutoTour at four of our ten power plants. The remainder of the plants will be using these products by the end of this year,” states Brent Knepper, Operations Project Manager for Exelon Nuclear.

AutoLog automates the logging process, thus reducing the time and effort required to enter and retrieve log data. Currently, Exelon plant and corporate management can readily view information logged in AutoLog from any site in the fleet via the company Intranet.

AutoTour allows plant operations and management to efficiently collect and manage plant data requiring visual inspection. Data collected during operator rounds is entered directly into AutoTour on handheld computers.

Data Systems & Solutions is equally owned by Rolls-Royce and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and began operations in February 1999. The company provides predictive maintenance technologies and integrated asset management solutions to aviation, defense, energy, process industry, and transport clients.

Data Systems & Solutions employs approximately 650 information technologists, engineers, and other professionals in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Czech Republic. Please visit the Data Systems & Solutions web site at
