Demand for utility meters experiencing steady growth

These changes are influenced by the deregulation of the utility and telephony industries, the growth of the Internet and its applications, as well as increasing processing power of computing systems. Traditional electromechanical meters requiring manual reading are being enhanced to support remote automated reading systems and increasingly are being replaced by electronic digital meters. The Internet is being used more than ever to deliver bills to customers, who in turn are being encouraged to use automatic bill paying systems.

Jan. 15, 2001–The Environmental Protection Agency today amended its regional haze rule to help states determine how to set air pollution limits for a number of older, large utilities and other industrial plants.
