Department of Defense Selects ESP
The Department of Defense has awarded New Energy Ventures the contract to supply electricity and related services to numerous Army, Navy and Air Force facilities that are eligible to participate in California`s deregulated marketplace. The facilities include, among others, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Fort Hunter Liggett, the Navy Postgraduate School, Miramar, Camp Pendleton and the Navy Shipyard in Long Beach. The four-year contract for 1,200,000 MWh of electricity annually is worth approximately $300 million, and is one of the largest deals by an energy service provider (ESP) since California created the deregulation framework for the state in 1995. The selection process included evaluating all prospective ESPs in the following areas: technical capability, industry experience, past performance and pricing. The process was weighted so that technical capability, industry experience and past performance were more important as a total unit than the pricing portion.
