Deregulated retail rate freezes ignore simple economics

The ‘law of demand’, an obvious consideration for government regulators, states that consumers are willing and able to purchase more of a good the lower its price. Yet it seems that most crafters of electricity deregulation did not go beyond the core lecture of Economics 101; a critical related concept, demand-elasticity, has not been realistically factored into most states’ restructuring strategy.
