Electric City and Electro-Test announce utility incentive alliance

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. and SAN RAMON, Calif., Oct. 17, 2002 — Electric City Corp. has entered into a strategic alliance with Electro-Test to market Electric City’s EnergySaver and GlobalCommander technologies to Electro-Test customers with a focus on utility incentive programs.

Electro-Test is a wholly owned consulting subsidiary of Emerson Electric with expertise in power quality, utility program design and energy conservation. The Alliance was formed as a result of discussions between the organizations related to customer projects, such as Cal State University and A&P Stores, which successfully participated in existing utility incentive programs.

“Electro-Test has a unique position in the energy industry as a consultant that advises larger customers on energy related issues as well as helping utilities with design and implementation of their energy conservation incentive programs,” stated John Mitola, CEO of Electric City Corp. “We were extremely excited about their interest in working with us. Together, we have targeted large, multi-site customers like those that we have had so much success with to date. Electro-Test brings years of credibility and proven results working with incentive program providers and bringing those programs to their customers.”

“Electric City’s EnergySaver technology is perfectly suited to provide strong returns to our customers while taking full advantage of the many, utility incentive programs around the country,” stated Jay Raggio, Manager Energy Services for Electro-Test. “We became interested in the EnergySaver after we saw the ongoing success of customer installations. This is a rare energy savings and demand curtailment technology which has gained a strong level of commercial acceptance along with acceptance by regulators and incentive providers. We are confident of our ability to package the EnergySaver with our other offerings and to deliver significant economic value to scalable customers.”

Electric City’s EnergySaver technology provides customers with a system that reduces lighting systems’ electricity demand and consumption by 20% to 40%, while maintaining appropriate lighting levels. With the EnergySaver, customers can easily reduce their lighting system costs helping to improve overall profitability.

Electric City’s GlobalCommander networks lighting systems from various locations so they can be controlled and programmed from a central location to automatically reduce energy consumption, provide demand curtailment and provide real-time measurement and verification of the EnergySaver system results. The GlobalCommander also allows facility managers to instantly respond to curtailment requests from utility suppliers during peak demand periods combining loads into a scalable, load curtailment system — a key element in accessing utility incentives.

Since last year, Electric City has been focused on the introduction of their Shared Savings services, lease solutions and Virtual “Negawatt” Power Plant programs. These programs allow Electric City to provide EnergySaver and GlobalCommander technology to customers with no up-front cost.

“Our alliance with Electro-Test represents another sign that the EnergySaver has reached a critical level of commercial acceptance across North America,” added Mitola. “Every day we add new customers, ship units to repeat customers and get more interest on the part of potential sales alliance members. We are now in a position to selectively work with the best of the best and we see Electro-Test as one of the true leaders in the energy consulting space.”
