Expanding Excellence

Dear Conference Attendees,

We have built our reputation on Expanding Excellence, and professionals in the utility industry have come to expect CIS Week to bring the finest and freshest CIS education, expertise and technologies. We’ve helped utilities rethink their CIS system, management, equipment and source. We bring together the options, the latest advancements and proven best practices. We’ve also helped by constantly producing new educational venues that focus on the most critical issues facing utility professionals today. CIS Week has quickly become the must-attend utility education event of the year.

The CIS Executive Summit is specially designed with senior-level utility executives in mind. The two-day Summit is for utility leaders who keep their eyes on both the horizon and the bottom line. Speaker and panel sessions will initiate stimulating discussion of pressing concerns and practical solutions in an intellectual and creative environment. Participants will share their insights, debate their differences and ultimately shape new ideas.

Building on the success of the inaugural CIS College in 2005, which offered one course dealing with the ABC’s of selecting the right CIS for different utility requirements, CIS College 2006 is offering four sought-after courses. Utility professionals who attend one of these courses will gain valuable knowledge about project management, call center methodologies and technologies, and how to select and implement a new CIS system. Attendees will receive sample documents, contracts and deliverables necessary to help them choose, implement and succeed.

Our latest expansion, CIS Synergy Groups, will debut this year. These groups provide an opportunity for application user groups to exchange information, ideas, experiences and resources, both for their own support and that they may influence the direction of future enhancements in their system. These groups will foster communication between users and developers providing valuable feedback to system providers. We have three this year and expect more next year.

CIS Conference 30 boasts more than 50 workshops, compiled through a rigorous screening process, to bring field experts who will share knowledge, practices, risks and results. Attendees will not only see the latest product and technology innovations, but they will hear real-world application experiences from other utilities as well.

CIS Conference is pleased with its new business partnership with Electric Light & Power. We are proud to maintain strong relationships with our attendees, sponsors, exhibitors and media connections, and we can already see how our cross-marketing agreement will benefit both organizations for years to come. A record number of attendees are expected to participate in this year’s CIS Week. You will find more details in the show guide section of this issue on page 46.

I look forward to seeing you in DFW, Texas, for the biggest and best CIS Week yet!
