FirstEnergy announces sale of retail gas business to Amerada Hess

AKRON, Ohio, March 18, 2005 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) — FirstEnergy Corp. has agreed to sell its FirstEnergy Solutions subsidiary’s retail natural gas business to Amerada Hess Corporation. FirstEnergy Solutions supplied natural gas to approximately 1,900 commercial and industrial customers in selected areas within Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Terms of the transactions are governed by a confidentiality agreement. This divestiture is consistent with FirstEnergy’s strategy to focus on its core electric business.
