FirstEnergy completes transfer of non-nuclear plants to wholly owned subsidiary

Akron, OH, Oct. 25, 2005 — FirstEnergy Corp. announced the completion of a transfer of its fossil and hydroelectric generating plants – totaling 8,132 megawatts – to FirstEnergy Generation Corp. (FGCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of FirstEnergy Solutions, the company’s competitive subsidiary.

These plans, which were approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, require among other things, the separation of generating assets from the utility companies’ regulated delivery businesses. The transactions essentially complete the ownership transfer without affecting operation of the plants.
