Frost & Sullivan Awards ABB for E-commerce Innovation

At the DistribuTECH 2002 Conference and Exhibition in Miami Beach, Frost & Sullivan awarded ABB Inc. the 2001 Market Engineering Internet E-Commerce Innovation Award for ABB’s Energy Profiler Online (EPO) solution.

ABB’s EPO provides electric and utility commercial and industrial customers with load profiles, usage history charts, statistics for multiple locations and estimated bills so that they can make cost-effective energy choices. ABB hosts the Web-based application so customers do not need additional staff, hardware or software. The service is also used as a communications platform for managing load curtailment and real-time pricing programs. EPO is currently in use at more than 20 North American utilities.

“ABB’s EPO system can be integrated with automated meter reading (AMR) devices to provide customers with real-time consumption reporting, giving the company competitive advantage,” said Roberto Torres, Frost & Sullivan industry research manager. “The system is accessed through the utility’s Web site, so it maintains control of the service, thus propelling the entity into a future market leadership position.”

Hisham Othman, ABB’s vice president and general manager of business management systems, said the company was pleased to receive the Frost & Sullivan award. “We’ve had a great response from the market, and this award confirms our belief that providing customers with the means to manage energy costs is a recipe for success in the retail energy arena.”
