Georgia Power’s online energy tracking system continues to grow


ATLANTA, Nov. 22, 2002 — Georgia Power’s EnergyDirect.com, an online tool that business customers can use to analyze and track their current and historical energy usage and billing information, is steadily growing despite months of a stagnant economy.

Since its inception in 2001 EnergyDirect.com has grown from 797 customers in 2001 to nearly 1,400 this year. EnergyDirect.com, offers business customers secure, around-the-clock access to energy usage and billing information as well as individual account consolidation.

“We’ve been recognized as the best in our industry at satisfying customers, and EnergyDirect.com helps us continue to build on that recognition,” said Don Conoly, director of products and services. “Our customers identified these services — as well as convenience and security — as priorities in terms of what they need from their energy supplier,” Conoly added.

Using EnergyDirect.com business customers can:

* Track energy costs throughout the month and make adjustments in order to meet budget targets
* Correlate energy usage with their own production data, changes in their operation, or weather
* Forecast energy costs for the next year
* Spot energy trends such as increased usage by faulty equipment
* Illustrate energy consumption and the value of efficiency to their employees

The standard package of services offered by EnergyDirect.com is free. There are three additional levels of enhanced services, ranging in price from $30 to $90 a month.

To enroll in this service, business customers should log on to www.EnergyDirect.com , click on “Log in” and then on “New User.” The screens will walk the user through the registration process. There is also a tutorial that provides business customers with a tour of the Web site and an overview of the functions. In addition, there is a link to Southern Company’s e-Bill Web site, where customers can pay their bills online.

“We’ve worked to make EnergyDirect.com flexible and easy to use,” said Chris Savage, EnergyDirect.com product manager. “It provides business customers with the information they want — when they want it and in the form they want it.”

EnergyDirect.com is part of a comprehensive Internet customer service initiative known as “e-Customer” that was recently launched by Southern Company, the parent of Georgia Power. In addition to EnergyDirect.com, e-Customer services include e-Bill, an online bill delivery and payment system, and Online Customer Care, an information and service resource.

Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO – News), one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving customers in 57,000 of the state’s 59,000 square miles. Georgia Power’s rates are more than 15 percent below the national average and its 2 million customers are in all but six of Georgia’s 159 counties.
