Gestalt acquires energy and utility division of Mel Baiada-owned Sengen

King of Prussia, PA, Jan. 23, 2004 — Gestalt, LLC, an information technology firm specializing in the application of interoperation technologies including decision support and simulation, announced that it has acquired the energy and utility practice of Sengen, an Internet consulting and development firm owned by noted technology entrepreneur, Mel Baiada, founder of Bluestone Software.

The move marks a significant milestone for Gestalt’s already successful Energy and Utility business practice. It provides a greater breadth of services and resources and affirms the company’s commitment to continued growth in the high profile energy and utility space.

The acquisition strengthens Gestalt’s offering in a number of key areas. Sengen’s energy and utility group is recognized as a leading provider of deregulation and compliance consulting, solutions and data exchange services. As part of the deal, Gestalt acquires Sengen’s award-winning, proprietary ASP/EDI software solution, utilized in the exchange of customer billing, usage and customer choice enrollment information. Also, Sengen’s expertise in Resource and Asset Optimization solutions will further expand Gestalt’s offerings for energy and utility clients.

“We are very pleased to be able to increase the value and breadth of offerings for our current clients by becoming part of Gestalt, the premier provider of interoperability solutions to the Defense and Energy sectors,” said Matthew Manzi, Jr., Vice President, Sengen Energy and Utility Practice.

“Our energy and utility clients will benefit from this acquisition because it expands our service offerings and increases our domain expertise,” said William Loftus, President and CEO, Gestalt. “Sengen’s people and processes complement our strong utility practice. This step is a key factor in our growth and demonstrates our commitment to the sector.”

Information technology issues have taken on increased significance in the energy and utility sector following the major blackout that occurred in 2003. This move marks the latest in a line of investments and personnel additions to Gestalt’s energy and utility practice over the past 18 months.
