Golder Associates acquires Labno Environmental Inc.

ATLANTA, Ga., June 10, 2002 — Golder Associates, one of the world’s largest employee-owned environmental and engineering consulting firms, has acquired Labno Environmental, Inc., a firm specializing in environmental permitting, compliance management and infrastructure support for waste-to-energy, distributed generation, cogeneration and other energy providers.

By adding the Minneapolis/St. Paul-based consulting firm, Golder will expand its services within the energy, manufacturing, and solid waste industries, and increase its geographic presence in the upper Midwest.

“This merger provides Golder with additional consulting and engineering talent in environmental permitting and compliance, particularly in the growing field of alternative fuels such as ethanol, biofuels, and landfill gas-to-energy,” said Golder Associates Inc. President Steve Thompson. “We’ve worked with Labno staff on several joint-venture projects and we are happy to have them join the Golder team. “

Over its 18 years in environmental consulting, Labno has built a client base that includes nationwide landfill gas-to-energy developers, district heating and cooling operators, power companies, ethanol producers, healthcare organizations, and waste management companies.

“By combining our expertise with Golder’s talent and worldwide resources in environmental engineering, we provide a powerful repertoire of skills for energy and waste management companies,” said Labno President Bruce Labno, who will continue to manage the former Labno operations at Golder. “The people who worked for me at Labno will now have even greater opportunities as Golder employees to enhance and grow their skills,” he added.

During the past two years, Golder has seen significant growth in its energy/power and manufacturing compliance practices. Golder is also well-known worldwide for its technical expertise in geotechnical engineering, mining, infrastructure, remediation and water supply. Labno’s expertise in compliance services includes environmental permitting for air and wastewater, proprietary software to manage environmental health and safety compliance, and infrastructure support.

Golder Associates Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of Golder Associates Corporation, an international, employee-owned group of science and engineering consulting companies. Golder provides comprehensive consulting services in support of environmental, industrial, natural resources and civil engineering projects.

Founded in 1960, the corporation has more than 2,700 employees in over 80 offices worldwide, fulfilling project assignments for clients in 140 countries.
