Green Mountain Energy Co. responds to California PUC’s suspension of customer choice in electricity

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 20, 2001 – Green Mountain Energy Company is extremely disappointed that the California Public Utilities Commission today voted to suspend the rights of Californians to choose their energy provider.

“This action affects more than the business community,” said Rick Counihan, California Regional Vice President of Green Mountain Energy Company. “It prevents small customers from choosing cleaner energy products like those offered by Green Mountain Energy Company. Hundreds of thousands of individual Californians have made this choice in the past and we expect hundreds of thousands more would make this choice if given the opportunity.”

“Nonetheless, Green Mountain Energy Company is not giving up its mission to change the way power is made. We will continue to serve the thousands of existing Green Mountain Energy Company customers in California with energy from cleaner and renewable energy sources.

Additionally, recently we launched a new Home Solar product in California that offers consumers one-stop shopping for home solar energy systems so they can reduce their dependence on their utility and the size of their electric bills at the same time, while generating their own pollution-free energy,” concluded Counihan.

Consumers interested in Green Mountain Energy’s Home Solar product can visit the company’s website at www.greenmountain.com or call 866-GMTN-SUN (1-866-468-6786).
