Hold off on retail competition, says Alaska regulatory staff

HOUSTON, July 5, 2001 – Alaska regulators have recommended the state hold off on retail electricity competition, while boosting wholesale competition in the nation’s largest and one of its most lightly populated states.

SAN DIEGO, July 6, 2001 – San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) announced today that 25 local businesses, institutions and municipal agencies have helped it enlist 60 megawatts (MW) of back-up power in the Rolling Blackout Reduction Program (RBRP). The back-up power – enough for about 60,000 homes – will help San Diego avoid some blackouts and reduce the total number of electric service interruptions for a majority of the county’s local communities.
