Hunt Technologies and Landis+Gyr introduce TS2 FOCUS endpoint

May 2, 2005 – Hunt Technologies, Inc. and Landis+Gyr, Inc. have announced the commercial availability of their jointly developed TS2 FOCUS endpoint, which combines Hunt Technologies’ two-way, automatic meter reading (AMR) technology with the Landis+Gyr solid-state FOCUS® meter.

The TS2 FOCUS endpoint monitors power consumption with a direct register read from the meter, then transmits usage and demand data to the utility over the power line.

The two-way AMR capabilities enable:

* service voltage and average voltage reads from the meter;
* outage detection and restoration notification;
* peak demand and time-of-use billing;
* user-configurable data transmission options;
* remote programming from the billing office;
* tamper detection, and more.

“The direct register read technology allows Hunt to offer more functionality, such as providing precision voltage reads, as Landis+Gyr adds new capabilities to the FOCUS meter line,” said Al Swanson, product manager for Hunt Technologies.

The unique features of the FOCUS meter platform-when combined with modular AMR communication technologies such as Hunt’s TS2 module-deliver benefits not found with other solid-state meter platforms. The FOCUS meter utilizes a Digital Multiplication Measurement Technique on a single circuit-board design, positioned toward the face of the meter. The meter is also optically reconfigurable, meaning the cover does not have to be removed to allow kWh resets or meter reprogramming. The FOCUS meter provides improved performance over its electromechanical counterparts, such as low starting watts, low burden, flat load curve and better accuracy. These features contribute to better overall reliability and dependability during the entire life of the endpoint.

“The TS2 FOCUS endpoint is the second AMR communication option for the FOCUS meter that we have developed and introduced collaboratively with Hunt in a very short time frame,” said Lizardo Hernandez, Landis+Gyr’s FOCUS Product Marketing Manager. “The ability to bring new products to the market quickly, with the high quality and functionality for which both companies are known, speaks to the strength of our relationship and will enable Landis+Gyr to succeed in reaching its goal to provide the most extensive meter platform range available for Hunt’s AMR system.”

Utilities have the option to purchase FOCUS meters with the TS2 endpoint already factory installed, or purchase the endpoint and meter separately. The TS1 FOCUS endpoint from Hunt Technologies and Landis+Gyr has been commercially available since August, 2004.
