Industry group lauds Chicago Solar Partnership site as ‘outstanding web site’

CHICAGO, Ill., Oct. 17, 2002 — The 2002 Web Marketing Association annual competition on October 1, 2002 recognized the Chicago Solar Partnership web site as “Outstanding Web site.”

The site, http://www.chicagosolarpartnership.org, is a real-time site dedicated to promoting renewable energy. The association presented the award to the site’s designer, Internet Presence Consulting, Inc. (IPC).

Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), a sponsor of the Chicago Solar Partnership, launched the winning web site in November 2001 to provide renewable energy information, with an emphasis on solar energy.

The site offers information for customers of ComEd, Chicago’s largest electricity provider, that are interested in selling excess electricity from their solar electric systems back to the utility.

The site also is designed to be a resource for teachers and students. Through real-time data display, school children can check the performance and avoided CO2 emissions for numerous solar electric systems operating throughout Chicago, including the Field Museum of Natural History, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, and several Chicago public schools. Using flash multimedia diagrams and downloadable lesson plans, the web site provides educational tools about the ecological impact of renewable energy use.

The Chicago Solar Partnership is an effort spearheaded by ComEd, the City of Chicago and other sponsoring parties to promote awareness about generating power from renewable resources such as photovoltaic (solar), wind, geothermal, gas (methane) and hydro (water) energy.

The sixth annual WebAward competition highlights individuals and companies leading the way in the creation of corporate web sites that provide a well-rounded experience for Internet users. According to the Web Marketing Association, a record 1,300 sites were entered this year, spanning across 78 award categories, making it the most competitive yet. Each WebAward entry is judged by Internet marketing, advertising, PR and design professionals from around the country against a standard of excellence for design, innovation, use of technology, content, interactivity, navigation, and ease of use.
