IEA launches sites

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has launched two policy information Web sites. The “Dealing with Climate Change” site features data on energy-related policies and measures taken or planned by the IEA’s 26 member countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The second Web site, “Renewable Energy Policies and Measures in IEA Countries,” contains detailed references to some 160 pieces of legislation designed to encourage the development and market uptake of renewable energy sources.

NERC standard approved

The electric industry has voted to approve a cyber security standard, which was submitted as an urgent action request by a subgroup of NERC’s critical infrastructure protection advisory group.

The standard requires that critical cyber assets related to the reliable operation of the bulk electric systems are identified and protected. After a 30-day posting period, the standard will be presented to the NERC board of trustees for adoption. If adopted, it will be the first NERC standard to go through NERC’s new ANSI-approved process for developing and implementing reliability standards. NERC intends to file the standard with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which requested that NERC work with the industry to develop a cyber security standard as part of its rulemaking on standard market design.

SCE chooses Magnitude

Southern California Edison (SCE) has expanded its enterprise deployment of Magnitude Information Systems’ anti-injury software for its employees who use computers. SCE has identified ergonomics as an important safety issue and a tremendous productivity lever, leading to SCE’s choice of Magnitude’s software.

JCMB gets Canadian contract
