Joint venture aimed at Japanese electricity retail business

The joint venture plans to use next-generation power generation systems as micro-gas turbines and diesel power generators to produce electricity at a lower cost. The companies plan to target hotels, office buildings and other commercial users.

NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2000–Consolidated Edison Co. of New York Inc. (Con Edison) recently released data showing that the overall electrical system performance for this summer, based on the rate of service interruptions, was the best in the past eight years. The electrical system’s overall performance data for June, July and August 2000, compared with the previous five-year average, indicates a reduction of approximately 43 percent in the number of customer interruptions.
