LIPA to grid-connect 75 fuel cells in demonstration project

The program is intended to begin identifying and developing the measures and systems needed to facilitate the eventual use of fuel cells operating in parallel with, and contributing to the overall reliability and performance of LIPA’s electrical grid system.

BUTTE, Mont., June 26, 2001 — The Montana Power Company announced today it has finalized an agreement that buys out the remaining term of a power supply contract with Advanced Silicon Materials LLC (ASiMI) — an action that removes Montana Power’s exposure to uncertain future energy prices, while allowing the silicon-production plant just west of Butte to obtain a longer-term electricity supply from another provider.
