MDS introduces new security device for serial data: DistribuTECH update

Tampa, FL, Feb. 13, 2006 — Microwave Data Systems (MDS), a provider of industrial, wireless, networking solutions with applications in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automation, telecommunications, public safety, and online transactional markets, introduced the latest addition to the MDS Security Suite at the DistribuTECH 2006 conference.

MDS SCADAcrypt promises to add updated encryption to a wireless SCADA network. The product can be used for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint links, and it provides security to the device and/or to the host in MDS wireless serial systems.

Features on the new serial data encrypter include AES-256 bit encryption and Ethernet management port password protection. It is a compact device but designed to work in brutal operating conditions, which include temperatures from —40 to +70 degrees Celsius.

When all units are installed, a single command from the master turns on system-wide encryption. The user interface is Web-server based and password protected enabling remote access to authorized personnel from any computer with Ethernet and a web browser.
