RALEIGH, N.C., July 15, 2002 — ABB announced recently the release of MeterIT Metercatà¢â€ž- Software version 1.2.
Metercat is an advanced configuration and analysis software application that programs and reads ABB’s MeterIT A3 ALPHA® meter. The A3 ALPHA meter is a high accuracy, solid-state revenue meter that easily integrates with various third party communications options.
A new feature of Metercat is the ability of the software to program Itron’s 50ESS ERT® — a radio-based module recently integrated under-the-cover of the meter. The 50ESS ERT is an available communications option for the A3 ALPHA meter.
The A3 ALPHA meter with 50ESS ERT is ABB’s latest solution for gathering billing data from demand and simple TOU-metered accounts using Itron handheld, mobile and network AMR systems.
“Metercat now has the capability to program Itron’s 50ESS ERT within the A3 ALPHA meter. This feature saves the utility time and money by not having to use separate software applications to program both the meter and the 50ESS ERT module,” stated Ronald B. Via, vice president of sales and marketing for ABB.
Metercat offers flexible support to adapt to utilities’ changing communications needs. With Metercat, reading and configuring meter data is easily handled through the meter’s optical port — eliminating the need to access the 50ESS ERT directly. Metercat supports both optical and remote communications for meters equipped with internal or external modems. It simplifies meter communications and programming tasks and includes load profile data options for exporting to MV-90 and ASCII file formats.
Metercat stores meter readings for later retrieval and saves meter data to reports in standard HTML format-easily viewed with any Web browser. Metercat provides task-based functions for performing routine actions on meters including billing and diagnostic reads. Metercat runs on all existing 32-bit Windows platforms.

The A3 ALPHA meter provides upward mobility to adapt to the utility’s future communications requirements.
