Meter Testing

The CMControl, the flexible front panel control for the OMICRON CMC test sets, now provides a completely new test tool for meter testing. With this tool, CMControl users now have the possibility to test not only various power system protection devices but also electricity meters on-site. The functionality of the CMControl meter testing tool includes the calibration of the Wh and varh measurements, each in both load directions. Depending on the CMC test set used, the calibration of meters up to an accuracy class of 0.2 is possible. Start-up and no-load checks also can be performed to assess the proper function of electromechanical meters.


Home Energy Gateway Integrates Smart Thermostat Performance

Energate Inc. introduced its next-generation Foundation platform at DistribuTECH in San Antonio. Foundation is a multi-load, extensible home energy gateway that supports utility residential demand response programs and extends control of devices beyond learning and smart thermostats. It combines an in-home display, load control, load management, automatic dynamic price response and a smart thermostat in a simple, single unit with multi-radio capability. These combined capabilities provide information, insights and control to manage and monitor all of a home’s energy needs. Foundation is available immediately to utilities for evaluation in demand response pilot programs. It can also be ordered for large-scale deployment for the 2012 cooling season. The Foundation Home Energy Gateway is part of Energate’s comprehensive home energy management suite and utility demand response solutions delivered using its Consumer-Connected Demand Response (CCDR) platform.


Magnum 10C Substation Computer

GarrettCom has introduced the Magnum 10C substation-hardened computer to enable mission-critical applications in harsh environments. It is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, power surges and fast transients, as well as other issues. The Magnum 10C is built on the low power consumption 1.6 Hz Intel Atom processor and supports multiple operating systems including Windows 7, Windows XP/XPE, Linux OpenSUSE, Ubuntu and Debian. It meets or exceeds the IEC 61850 and IEEE 1613 global standard to support substation communications needs and is configured with two Ethernet ports, six USB ports and six optional serial ports, as well as a 16GB flash drive and optional disk bays. Dual hot-swappable power supplies are available with multiple voltage options. Options include a sealed chassis and convection cooling using a patented thermal design.




Wireless Mesh Router

Tropos Networks announced the Tropos 1410 wireless mesh router and wireless bridge for field automation applications. The wireless mesh routers and wireless bridges create secure, IP-based field area communication networks serving thousands of automation endpoints such as intelligent electrical devices, industrial process controllers and SCADA devices. It can be centrally managed by the Tropos Control wireless network management, monitoring and control application. This model employs RADIUS, 802.1x, and 802.11i authentication, AES encryption and HTTPS-based remote access to secure field area networks from unauthorized devices, users and snooping. Tropos offers two product variants in the new line, the Tropos 1410 and the board-level Tropos 1410-B.
