Mindjet, Consolidated Edison of New York share technology innovation award

LARKSPUR, Calif., Oct. 22, 2002 — Technology Managers Forum, the professional association of IT managers at mid-to-large corporations, last Thursday presented its 7th Annual Technology Innovation Award jointly to Consolidated Edison of New York, Inc. (Con Edison) and Mindjet LLC.

The award recognized Con Edison’s successful use of Mindjet’s MindManager® business mapping software to create easy-to-understand visual representations of employee work processes.

Con Edison used the resulting business maps to better align work processes with overall business processes. With less than 15 percent of process improvements implemented, Con Edison reports savings of more than $600,000 a year in increased efficiency, and anticipates millions more in additional annual savings.

“Con Edison was able to overcome the significant challenge of effecting change to the corporate culture by selecting a technology designed to work intuitively,” forum judges noted. “Monetary savings through smarter work processes resulted in competitive advantage through faster decision making. Equally important was the boost in employee morale. Tools designed to foster creativity and capture thought processes increased job satisfaction by recognizing both individual and collective contribution.”

“We appreciate the forum’s recognition of the role our MindManager software played in helping Con Edison work smarter,” said Mindjet CEO Bettina Jetter. “In these tough economic times, companies can compete better by using visual tools like ours to clearly capture the intellectual capital of their employees and develop more innovative business practices.”
