New EMI shielding oversleeve prevents wire and cable abrasion and provides electromagnetic shielding

EXTON, Pa., June 26, 2002 — Roundit® 2000 EMI, a sleeving product manufactured by Federal-Mogul Corporation’s Systems Protection Group – and used for bundling and protecting wire and cable assemblies -provides a combination of electromagnetic shielding and mechanical protection.

Surpassing the standard foil and film sleeving, which is subject to tear, the fabric of Roundit® 2000 EMI is woven with polyester, metallized (silver-plated) nylon yarns, and a tinned copper drain wire – making it durable and highly resistant to abrasion and tearing, as well as flexible and lightweight.

In addition, its self-wrapping design provides for easy installation and removal, as well as added accessibility for inspection, rework, or replacement of components.

“The textile construction of Roundit 2000 EMI includes metallized materials which provide the electromagnetic shielding protection required by many of our customers,” explained Janice Maiden, director of product development for Federal-Mogul’s Systems Protection Group. “In addition, its self-wrapping capabilities allow for quick and easy installation, enabling design teams to provide a quick solution to any electromagnetic interference problems that can surface during product development.”

Starting with the assembly process and continuing throughout the life of the end product, mechanical assemblies such as wires, cables, and hoses are subject to harmful vibration, abrasion, dirt, oil, heat, and moisture. Quality-conscious manufacturers can protect against these variables by using top-grade protective sleeving products. Roundit 2000 EMI has passed critical performance tests for shielding effectiveness, low temperature flexibility, and fluid resistance.

Key features of Roundit 2000 EMI include the following:
* EMI/RFI protection;
* Rated to 125 degrees C
* Self-wrapping, tubular design;
* Excellent flexibility;
* Lightweight construction;
* Aesthetic appearance; and,
* Top-quality protection against tear and abrasion.

The Roundit line of protective oversleeves was originally manufactured by industry leader BentleyHarris, a company Federal-Mogul acquired in 1998. Federal-Mogul combines BentleyHarris’ 76 years of systems protection with its own quality heritage, dating back more than 100 years.
