New energy marketplace software package launched

SPOKANE, Wash., Oct. 15, 2001 — Itron Inc. today announced the commercial availability of its advanced information exchange server, MV-90 Enterprise Edition.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the annual MV-90 Users’ Conference, taking place this week in Seattle, Washington, where more than 300 Itron MV-90 users have gathered to share knowledge about data collection and management software solutions, new business objectives and market requirements.

“MV-90 Enterprise Edition is a flexible data management solution that makes critical energy usage data gathered by our industry- MV-90 software readily available to an entirely new cast of users, data subscribers and software developers to support a wide variety of energy-related applications,” said Dennis Shepherd, Vice President and General Manager of Itron’s Energy Information Systems business unit.

Featuring an easy-to-use browser-based interface, MV-90 Enterprise Edition is fully integrated with Itron’s MV-90 system, a software application used by 90 percent of the largest electric and gas utilities in the United States to collect usage and event data from commercial and industrial metering points.

MV-90 Enterprise Edition has been successfully implemented at Southern Company, one of the nation’s largest energy providers and Itron’s development partner for the system.

MV-90 Enterprise Edition enables MV-90 to function as an advanced, two-way information exchange server for an array of applications. These include billing and financial settlement, load forecasting and demand management, distribution operations and planning, marketing and customer care, deregulated marketplace transactions, and more. Energy providers can use MV-90 Enterprise Edition to perform advanced load aggregation, generate reports and view graphs, integrate the data with other systems, and more. Its advanced search capabilities and thin-client architecture, incorporated into a relational database, enable improved efficiencies while expanding access to rich and accurate information for value-added applications.

MV-90 Enterprise Edition features industry standard data exchange formats, open access to MV-90 via an XML API services layer for third-party software developers, a calculation engine to build and execute complex load calculations, and a scalable Oracle relational database. MV-90 Enterprise Edition supports Unix or Windows 2000 for the database platform, Windows 2000 as the application server platform and any Microsoft operating system on the client/server.
