New vice president named at UI

NEW HAVEN, Conn., March 26, 2003 — Officials at The United Illuminating Company (UI) have announced that W. Marie Zanavich has been elected UI’s vice president – information technology and chief information officer by the UIL Holdings Corporation Board of Directors.

In this position, Zanavich is responsible for developing and implementing all information technology (IT) strategies that focus on the alignment of technology with UI’s business requirements and ensuring the performance, security and continuity of UI’s information and technology infrastructure. She will continue to report to Anthony J. Vallillo, UI president and chief operating officer.

“Marie Zanavich’s application of skills, developed over her 20-year career in information technology and energy-related utilities, has greatly supported UI’s mission to provide safe and reliable delivery of electricity and related services, through the IT process area which is recognized as a source of excellence,” said Vallillo.

Zanavich has been chief information officer since joining UI in May 2001. Previously she served as vice president-information technology and chief information officer at United Water Resources in Harrington, New Jersey.

Zanavich has a strong background in strategic planning, IT assessments, costs of service models and change management. She is a graduate of the University of California with an M.A. degree in Administration from Loma Linda University, also in California.

UI is a New Haven-based regional distribution utility that provides electricity and energy-related services to more than 320,000 customers in municipalities in the Greater New Haven and Greater Bridgeport areas.
