NorthWestern joins with Governor Martz in proposing ‘Montana First Megawatts’

“Montana has several key industrial employers that have had to close their doors or eliminate hundreds of jobs because of spiraling electricity costs,” said Mike Hanson, president and chief executive officer of NorthWestern Services Group, which includes the utility arm of NorthWestern Corporation. “Our plan — known as ‘Montana First Megawatts’ — is focused on providing reasonably priced electricity for these industries, which will restore jobs and create economic growth in the state.” NorthWestern, subject to customary closing conditions, has agreed to purchase the utility business of The Montana Power Company, a transaction which is expected to close in mid-2001.

TORONTO, March 26, 2001 — Five regional power utilities announced today that they have joined forces to provide retail energy services through a new company, The Power Connection Inc. (TPC).
