PPL’s El Salvadoran service territory hit by earthquake; with power restored, employees aid in rescue efforts

The earthquake and resulting aftershocks impacted areas served primarily by DelSur, which distributes energy to 216,000 customers in central and southern El Salvador. Headquartered in San Salvador, DelSur is owned by PPL Global, LLC, PPL’s subsidiary responsible for international operations and domestic development.

Jan. 17, 2001—Northern California’s Silicon Valley slipped into darkness Wednesday, the first to feel the effect of rotating outages ordered by the California Independent System Operator because of dangerously low electricity supplies.
