Primen: Utilities hard-pressed to justify investments in residential-customer web sites

In a new Internet study, “What is the Business Case for Serving Residential Customers Via the Internet?” Primen found that the percentage of residential utility consumers that have done anything on the Web related to energy providers is virtually zero. Over the next three years, online transactions or product purchases is expected to grow less than one percent—even though more than 60 percent of residential energy customers have online access.

LAS VEGAS, July 2, 2001 — Nevada Power Company announced that approximately 10,000 customers on non-emergency circuits were affected by a staged curtailment for 45 minutes Monday at a period of record power demand.
